January 2010 Starts in Eastern Samar January 2010 · · Taken at Eastern Samar
A window in January 2010 opened up when all of us could goof off of our respective work commitments and plan the year's first trip. With a vehicle sorted and Steve's faithful driver Ed having been "volunteered", compressor pulled out of Tech Asia, flights booked for the rest of us, and Joni Bonifacio waiting, the prevailing weather off the Pacific started giving us grave cause for concern. Samar...Wet, Rest of Philippines...Dry. But the wheels were too far in motion to cancel out and for better or worse we went anyway. Joni had a new place to show us in Eastern Samar, somewhere he was very excited about, and it was to be the first days target. It was a river head close to the road about ten miles from Taft and the Pacific Coast. An intriguing location but the rain was pelting down and this presumed spring on absolutely full song, from two openings, in terms of flow and turbid water. But we were here now....and the decision to throw Ralph in to the Cauldron was taken.
